Fibre-Channel is the NEW generation
serial protocol being introduced for mass storage interconnect.
Fibre-Channel is a serial interface that operates at 100 MBps offering a
performance advantage over currently available SCSI based
subsystems.
Fibre-Channel Copper Cables vary in
length from 1-meter to 24.5 meters, unequalized.
Equalization circuitry is used to
extend the usable length of copper cables to 30 meters and over. The
equalizer network corrects for the signal distortion caused by the
difference in amplitude loss and propagation delay time between frequency
components of the transmitted signal in the longer cable
assemblies.
In subsystems designed with a dual
port configuration it is necessary to "loop back" the Fibre-Channel
signal when one port is unused in order to maintain a full arbitrated
loop.
